Exam AZ-900: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals

Hello, and welcome to this video course on AZ-900 Microsoft Azure Fundamentals. My name is Jim Cheshire. I'm the author of many bestselling technical books, the most recent being Exam Ref AZ-900 Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, now in its third edition. I also conduct regular live training events for Azure Fundamentals on the O'Reilly live events platform. In my day job, I'm a principal leader of readiness for the Apps and Infrastructure Business Unit at Microsoft. Encompassing Azure, our developer technologies, and our Windows commercial business. I've been at Microsoft for almost 25 years, and during that entire time I've been writing about and helping customers get the most from Microsoft technologies. I'm so glad to see that you're here taking advantage of this video training for the AZ-900 Microsoft Azure Fundamentals exam. Anyone who needs to have a foundational understanding of cloud services and cloud based solutions with Microsoft Azure can benefit from this video course. Whether you are preparing for the AZ-900 exam now, just starting to work with the cloud, or need to understand terminology and concepts related to the cloud, this video will help you move forward in your career. Let me give you a quick introduction to what we'll cover in this video. All these topics are covered in the same order and breakdown that Microsoft uses in the exam outline. So keep that in mind. We'll start off with some high level cloud concepts, and an overview of the different cloud models. We'll define exactly what cloud computing is, and we'll introduce the private cloud, the public cloud, and hybrid cloud scenarios. We'll also talk about cloud concepts like high availability and scalability, agility, and other terms you need to understand. We'll introduce security and governance concepts as we lay the framework for deeper coverage of these topics later on in the course. We'll talk about manageability of your cloud resources, and we'll wrap up with a discussion of the different cloud service types and how benefits and drawbacks each offer you. After we cover these concepts, we'll present a thought experiment focusing on choosing the right cloud type and cloud service type for a real world scenario. These thought experiments will be presented throughout this course, and they're designed to reinforce the real life skills that will better prepare you for the exam. Next, we'll start with a discussion of some of the core architectural components of Azure. You'll learn about Azure regions and data centers, and we'll talk about some high level concepts that help you manage Azure resources. Next, we'll dig into Azure compute and networking services, including virtual machines and Azure virtual networks. We'll talk about the different Azure storage services that are available, and we'll cover some of the concepts that tie these storage services into the cloud concepts of redundancy and high availability. We'll wrap up with identity, access, and security concepts. We'll talk about some general security concepts, and we'll tie these into Azure with a discussion of Azure Active Directory, Azure role-based access control, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, and much more. We'll present you with a comprehensive and compelling thought experiment that will solidify your understanding of Azure architecture and how it supports cloud concepts you learned earlier. You'll also weigh the pros and cons of various Azure services to make the best choice in a real world scenario. Finally, we'll cover management and governance of your resources. We'll talk about costs in Azure, the things that can impact your costs, and how you can predict and control your costs in the cloud. We'll talk about the different options you have for creating and managing Azure resources, including the command line tools offered in Azure. And we'll talk about how you can extend Azure features into your on premises environment and into other clouds using Azure Arc. We'll close out the course with a thorough examination of the monitoring tools available in Azure, including Azure Monitor. We'll then challenge you with another thought experiment where you'll draw on your understanding of controlling costs in Azure and applying governance to resources. You'll make real world recommendations based on the knowledge you've learned related to resource creation, management, and more. My goal in this course is for you to come away with a solid understanding of the core concepts that will help you as you head into the Azure Fundamentals exam. Along the way, I hope you have some fun learning all about Azure. All right. Enough with the introduction. Let's dive right in.
