Career and Portfolio Counselling
The Glenfir School is a vibrant community that focuses on the development of each student's full potential, so that they can become a successful member of Canada's diverse society. Senior students at Glenfir have the opportunity to formulate their post-secondary training path in a personalized manner. During the course of the school year The Director of Student Services meets with graduating students individually and a regular basis in order to help them formulate sensible and viable career paths that are reflective of their talents and passions. Career counselling at Glenfir places a strong emphasis upon helping students keep their educational plans flexible, so that they have many options upon graduation. Often senior students find it challenging when making decisions regarding their future career paths. However, if this decision process is initiated in the early senior grades, much of the student anxiety is alleviated as they formulate successful plans for their futures. Helping students develop their academic potential is the centre of our mission.
In terms of the 2004 graduation portfolio development, students begin their portfolios in grade ten and receive individual attention to help them meet all the key components of this long-term project. Students continue to receive individual help in grade 11 so that they can fully complete this process in their graduating year. Once again, a strong emphasis is placed upon individual needs, talents and goals of the students so that their transition into post secondary institutions is smooth and planned well ahead of time, helping them retain their focus upon academia within their final senior year.
The Glenfir School also offers AP (Advanced Placement) courses. The AP program enables the students to master university-level content and provides them with the opportunity to receive credit or advanced placement at universities worldwide. This facet of our academic programming keeps ambitious students challenged and motivated to explore their full potential.
